Email marketing is a great way to build a highly successful, long term business on the internet. However, there are a few email marketing best practices that you need to follow in order to make sure you are doing it the “right” way.

Best practice number 1 – Make sure you have permission to mail

Out of all the email marketing best practices, this one is by far the most important. You need to always make sure you have permission to send the emails to your prospects. This can be accomplished by a simple opt in page. When people go to that page, they see your offer and make the decision whether or not they want to give you their name and email address. Once they do, you now have permission to send them emails until they choose to “opt-out”.

Best practice number 2 – Stay relevant

Just because people opt in to your email list does not mean you can send them anything you want. It needs to be relevant. For example, I run a highly successful “internet marketing” business, and the people that opt into my list are people that are interested learning how to make money online. So that’s what type of emails I send them. They did not opt in for information on how to train wild monkeys, so I don’t send them offers on this type of “off the wall” stuff. I always keep it relative.

Best practice number 3 – Don’t neglect your list

If you give away a free video training to everyone that opts in to your list, be sure to follow up with them and stay in constant contact. This is how you will turn your list into money. People buy things from people they know, like, and trust. The best way to get people to know like and trust you is to send them regular emails that actually add value to their life. This is the best way to ensure that the people on your list don’t forget about you. As an example, I try and send an email to my list once a day.

Best practice number 4 – Your list is not an ATM

When you begin to build a list, you will soon discover how easy it is to type up an email, recommending a product or service and make some quick money from the people that buy. This will make you tempted to send out offers more frequently so you can make even more money. DON’T DO IT. You should not treat your list like an ATM machine. You should treat them like the people that they are, and send them stuff that adds value to their life. Let them know that you actually care about them and are here to help. This will serve you well in the long run, and make your list 100x more profitable.

If you are reading this article then you are more then likely looking for more information on email marketing products. As I write this, I have been working online full time for the last 17 months, and have spent countless hours reviewing products, and have a good idea of what to look for.

The purpose of this article is to give you some time/money saving tips to keep in mind when searching for email marketing products to buy, review, or promote.

If you are searching for email marketing products to purchase then here is something you should know. Not all products are created equal. I have spent a ton of money on email marketing products. Some of those products have earned me thousands, and some have been complete “duds”.

Email marketing is one of the most lucrative forms of making money online, and overall it’s a pretty simple process. You build a list, develop a relationship with that list, and make offers to that list. When they buy, you get paid. The bigger the list, the more money you make. The better the relationship, the more money you make. It really is that simple… But it’s not “easy”.

I always like to look for original products. This will ensure that it’s not some “re-hashed” PLR product that is full of old irrelevant information.

If you are looking for email marketing products to review…

If you want a true review on specific email marketing products make sure to go to the source. Although the original product creator will use a lot of sales copy that sounds like “hype”, this is where you will get the best reviews in most cases.

The reason is simple… Successful internet marketing businesses are built around reputation, and in most cases the product creators will not just tell you an outright lie.

On the other hand, affiliates will. It’s ok to purchase from an affiliate, but keep in mind that many times, affiliates write up these good fake reviews just so they can make more sales. In most cases, the affiliates have never even seen the product for them selves. This is not always the case, but just keep it in mind.

So what about finding email marketing products to promote?

The same basic rules apply here… Before you make a recommendation of a product, you want to make sure that it is a product that contains valuable information that will help the potential buyer move forward in business. My personal rule is that I don’t recommend products that I don’t personally use. By doing this, I develop trust with my readers, and make more money in the long run.

So you want to learn how to start a web based business huh? Well join the crowd because every single day of the year, thousands of aspiring entrepreneurs decide that they want to learn how to start a web based business, but when it is all said and done, only the top few percent actually follow through.

Is it too hard to do?

No… It’s just that the majority of the people go about it the wrong way. They say they want to learn how to start a web based business, but in all actuality they just want to get the money and time freedom that a web based business will give them. In fact, I’ve never met anyone who really WANTED to own a business… They may say they do, but what they really want is the BENEFITS of owning a business.

Rather then waste time talking about my opinions, and what doesn’t work, let’s get into what DOES work shall we?

Here is how to start a web based business…

Realize that you have to sell something and determine a niche market. These are the people that you will be selling stuff to. For example, my niche market is people that want to learn how to make money online. That’s who I market to, and that’s what I teach.

Choose a domain name that makes sense and is relevant to your market. You can get this at places like godaddy (dot) com or namecheap (dot) com. Expect to spend around $7 per year for this.

Next get a hosting account with someone like Bluehost (dot) com or hostgator (dot) com. This will give you the ability to have a website that you control. Should cost no more then $8 per month.

The next tool you need is an autoresponder service. These range from $18 per month – $50 per month. My personal recommendation to start with is aweber. This is another tool that you MUST have to build a big business.

Then you create a squeeze page. This is a page that is designed to capture peoples name and email address when they visit your site. (voluntarily of course) This is how you are going to build your list of targeted prospects.

The next step is to drive traffic to your squeeze page and get people added to your list.

When people are on your list, the only thing left to do is to send them offers via email that are related to their interest. When they purchase the products, you will earn a commission.

There you go… It’s that simple.

Obviously there are many details that you will need to learn along the way, but in a nutshell this is it. This is exactly how to start a web based business. In fact, multi million dollar businesses are built in this same fashion.

So you want to earn money working from home huh? Well congratulations, you’re human… You are among THOUSANDS of other people that have that same dream. The unfortunate part is that most people never figure out how to do this and end up being a slave to their jobs for the rest of their life.

Why?

Because it is the fastest way to make things happen, and you are leveraging other peoples hard work to your benefit. Let me explain…

When you say you want to earn money working from home, chances are you want to use the internet. The bottom line is this… To make money online, you have to sell something. This means you must have a product.

This is what poses the problem for most marketers because they don’t have a product to sell, and they are not fond of cleaning out their closet to list everything they own on ebay.

So rather then creating your own product to sell, you can become an affiliate for someone who has already done all the hard work. They create the product. They ship the product. (if it’s not digital) They handle the customer service, and everything else. All you have to do is sell it and get paid.

Let’s say you know a lot of people that are interested in fitness. You can find a product like p90x (or whatever else you want), and become an affiliate for it. You then offer the product to your people and when they buy, you get a commission. (Usually 50-75%)

Product creators are willing to do this because even if they are only getting 25% of the sale, that’s 25% that they would not have made otherwise. Plus they just got a new customer.

Well that depends on who you ask… I personally think so, but some might say that it’s not wrong if someone else before you has made money with it. Oh well. To each his own.

Let me start by telling you why most people fail to make extra money at home…

The number one reason is because they are not willing to do the work. The number two reason is because they don’t have the right information. Sure you can make extra money at home by selling stuff on eBay, but is that something you REALLY want to do?

If the answer is no, then you probably have more of an entrepreneurial mindset, and eBay just won’t cut it. You want to build a REAL online business. If this is how you feel, then maybe you can agree that in this case, there ARE some wrong ways of making extra money at home.

So what is the RIGHT way?

Well, there is a little more to it then this, but to put it in it’s simplest form, you must have two things in place to make extra money at home.

1. A product or service to sell

2. Someone interested in buying it

Completely logical right?

Where most people mess up, is they focus on making sells, instead of focusing on building a list of targeted people. In this case, I mean an email list.

Think about it…

If you spent the next few months building an email list of 10,000 people that were ALL interested in learning how to train their dogs, how hard would it be for you to find a top notch dog training manual, send out a few emails, and get people to buy it?

Not hard at all.

Now what if you could earn a commission when anyone purchased that book?

One of the most powerful ways to build a successful business is by doing joint ventures. If you take any of the following joint venture examples that I lay out for you in this article and APPLY it, you are almost guaranteed to see immediate results in your business. Before I get into it, you should know that these joint venture examples are just that.

Examples

First things first, you need to know exactly what a joint venture is before you start trying to find different joint venture examples. Many times people will refer to it as a “JV” to make it easier, but there is absolutely no difference.

A JV in the simplest form is nothing more than an agreement between two or more people to work together on one project. There are many joint venture examples that I could pass on to you, but for the sake of time, I am going to give you the ones that have worked for me.

Since I am in the internet marketing industry and teach people how to build wildly successful online businesses, that is what I will stick to in this article. Just know that you do not have to be in the “make money online” industry to pull off a successful JV.

An affiliate program is probably the most popular joint venture example that I can give you. If you have a product or service that you sell online, you can create an affiliate program and leverage other peoples resources to maximize your profits. When your affiliates make sales, they earn a commission so they are happy. You are happy because you just earned some money and created a new customer without having to do any of the work. It’s a win-win situation.

The second joint venture example that I want to give you today is less known but far easier to pull off. In the internet marketing industry it is CRITICAL that you are always building an email opt in list. ALL successful marketers know and teach this.

The strategy is to find someone else in your industry that is building an email list also and approach them with the idea of doing an ad swap. In short, you will send out an email to your list promoting their offer, and your partner will email his or her list promoting your offer. One of those “you scratch my back, I’ll scratch yours” type of deals. You get new traffic and customers for free, and so does your new JV partner.

Another win-win situation.

These two joint venture examples are by no means the only ones that exist. The most successful entrepreneurs are usually the most creative, so go out there and figure out what type of win-win situation you can put together and watch your business grow by leaps and bounds.

I tell you because I want you to realize that you can truly find some AMAZING internet marketing info inside of these tiny little articles, so always remember that. Never think that just because something is short and free, it’s not valuable.

Now, on to the basics…

To make money online, you have to sell something. This means that you need a product. Once you find a product, you need a place to sell it. This means you need a website. Once you have your product on your website available to sell, you need to have people visit that site and buy it.

Sounds easy right?

Well there’s a lot more there then it seems like. You can’t just throw up any old product on a free website and tell your friends about it and expect to make millions. First of all, you need more then just visitors. You need TARGETED VISITORS. After all, people don’t buy stuff they aren’t interested in.

The way you get these targeted visitors is by setting up the RIGHT kind of website. In this case you want a squeeze page. This will allow you to capture the information (name and email address) of the interested people that visit your site.

Once you have their info, you can email them targeted offers that you KNOW they are interested in. You can do this as much as you would like. That’s why you hear people say “the money is in the list”. They are referring to the email list.

When you interview an industry expert, you are opening many doors of opportunity for yourself. You can use these interviews to add massive amounts of value to your prospects lives, you can turn them into a product that you can sell for a profit, you can use them as an enticing opt in offer, and more.

In fact, one of the most important pieces of a successful online business is continuity. (recurring payments) The perfect and easiest way to pull this off is by putting together an “interview of the month” type of continuity program.

An example would be for $39/month, I will send you a brand new interview with a leading expert in this industry where we talk about everything that is working for him in his business”. That’s something that works and MANY people pay for programs like this.

So how do you pull it off?

Well first you have to find experts to interview. Now before we continue, let’s define expert, because you may just getting started and it could sound intimidating. An expert is simply anyone who has their stuff together and can provide the listener with value. You don’t have to run out and get the CEO of a fortune 500 company right off the bat. You can simply find someone who is making stuff happen, and knows what they are talking about.

Now it’s time to find your expert.

Start by looking around you. If you have a business partner, interview them. If you have competition, interview them. Anyone that you can find is a place to start. You can also find people on websites like RTIR (dot) com under the “find a guest” tab. These are people who are WANTING to be interviewed. Industry related forums are good places to find people.

When you find someone to agree, you just set up a time to call in and lay the groundwork about what you will cover. Establish a start and finish time, and come up with a list of questions. The easiest way to do this is by asking THEM to send YOU a list of 10 questions that you will ask them. (After all, they know what they are good at)

Review the questions and set up a conference call line. Just do a search for “Free Conference Call” and you will find tons of options. At the scheduled time, you both call in, and conduct the interview. Most conference lines will allow you to record them.
